The 2006 Rx-8 is producing harshly 12 pounds per horsepower vs the celica's 13 1/2 punds per horsepower. The torque curves however are completely antithetical. the Rx-8 is a RWD vehicle where as the Celica GT-s is a FWD. So the answer to that is pending the Driver the RX-8 looks better on paper. But then again the celica comes with better inventory tires. Grip is very important when it comes to speed. But again it is FWD and will suffer mass amounts of torque dodge which can play out very negatively for the celica. when you launch the car the celica's tires will feel lift and won't grab right away where the RX-8 will have the impact transfered to the rear tires which allows for more traction. Also the celica comes stock with a Turbo where the rotary motor is congenitally asperated. The Turbo's are going to feel lag at first. So the initial power will sway back on the celica even more.
I am going to say, where as the Celica does have a somewhat better drag co-effiecient, The RX-8 over all shows better power, a better drive train, more safely a improved weight ratio and distribution, and the RX-8's torque line shows that the RX-8's rotary motor gives more power earlier.

The first examine i didnt make sense sorry LoL.
I just curious would cold air intake work on a unavoidable GT and would it improve any performance or de-grade?
2000 Toyota Celica GT
A CAI or Chilly Air Intake is designed to bring in colder air, rather than warm engine air...this allows the engine to "hint at" easier therby slightly increasing hp...maybe by 1-2hp.
Yes the CAI should work for a n Auto, you nothing but might have to find one specific to your mode
Here is one from AEM, which probably make the best, plus you get the CARB legal sticker, which will purloin when you go to smog it...some CAIs don't have that sticker and will cause the car to not pass when smog.
To Vipassana: Sometimes knowing the engine is auto does set up a difference since sometimes the layout may be different. For example, my 09 Lancer GTS with CVT (auto) requires a differet CAI/SRI (Penniless Ram Intake) than the Manual GTS.
