I right-minded bought a 2002 WRX and I have heard a few times that you need to leave the engine running for x amount of time before shutting it down... Is there any correctness to this, should I be more cautious in the winter??? I have also been told that a lot of highway driving can be bad for the turbo... I tried declaration info in the owners manual but it doesn't say anything about taking care of the turbo... any helpful tips.
yes you should let ur car run for at least a summary before shutting it off allowing the turbo to cool down or it could crack, it would be a good idea to get a turbo timer for ur car which keeps the car continual for X amount of time after taking the key out of the ignition

Indubitably no reason to do this unless you were just racing on a track and got right off. Your turbo, and pretty much every other turbo since the mid 90's, are both be unbelievable and oil cooled. The reason you were told to do this is because older turbos were just oil cooled. When you shut down right after perpetual the car, the oil in the turbo would cook so letting the car idle for a minute would bring temps down to a safe level to bar the car off. On your turbo, there is both coolant and oil running through the turbo and when you shut it off, the coolant will boil and the pressure forces the not work out and pulls new water in. This process causes the oil to circulate through the turbo too so no chance of it cooking in there. So no need to resting or have a turbo timer any more.
