Subaru Mechanics - What is this part?

I found this minor rubber bumper in the track of the moonroof of my 2009 Legacy. It was under the wind deflector thing that pops up when you unagreed the moonroof and it was preventing the roof from closing all the way. I would imagine that it is supposed to be attached to the bottom of the deflector, but I can't find a hole. There is also NOT one on the vis- side. I just can't find the mirror image part anywhere. Maybe it came off a while ago without causing any trouble.

It's somewhat firm rubber, about ¾" extended and about ½" wide. It has a little mushroom head on the top that appears as if it would hold the bumper in a slot on whatever part it mates up with.

The moonroof seems to close fine and seal well without it.

Thanks in speed for your help.

while i've owned 2 subarus i've not seen this part. however, i've worked onmy own cars since 1979...
i would bet it's to keep the moon roof from rattling when closed...

No, it's without doubt the panic button for the ejector seat.

Why am I STILL getting a gas smell from my 99 Subaru Legacy SUS Limited Edition after 4 trips to the garage?

This is an update to a without question I previously posted.

I had to have a lot of work done to get my car inspected this year. Part of that work was investigating a gas leak, which involved changing out the without a scratch gas tank, lines etc. as it was leaking from a sender pipe and a hole in the top of the tank. This had to be done twice since the tank the mechanic first got, (aftermarket tank), was faithfully the same, but had a different ventilation system in it and they couldn't fill it with gas. A new tank had to be purchased.

After the work was done I could detect a gas smell from inside the cab exceptionally, but also outside a bit. I took it back in and the mechanic checked all the lines and had to re-tighten a clamp that had either become loose or broken.

After I got it back I still smelled gas after stuffing the car, (it subsides the lower the gas level is) and called the next week to take it back again. This time they did some test where they blew smoke through the system to authenticate for any leaks which turned up nothing. They did find that a lot of dirt had gathered up under a plastic protective covering for the gas tank and that dirt had become saturated with gas, (purposes from an overfill which I don't ususally do). They cleaned that out and verified they could not smell any gas in the cab after letting it sit overnight. It's important to add there was only about a quarter of a tank of gas in it at the just the same from time to time.

Upon filling it recently and letting it sit, the very next day, low and behold I still smell gas!!

Obviously this is getting extremely frustrating and Id precisely like to get to whatever is causing this. Could it be an O2 sensor possibly, fuel filter etc.? What could the mechanic have possibly missed even after two or three scrutinize-overs? Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!

verify under the inlet manifold. hose clamps under the manifold for the fuel line would be loose. when you leave the car overnight, the combustible system remains pressurized. so if these hose clamps are loose, fuel will leak overnight slowly and fashion a foul smell. and if the air vents are open than you can smell the fuel inside the car.
these can be easily missed by mechanics.
to meet approval this, remove the alternator and check under the manifold, if the engine block or head is clean under the fuel lines than you have a incitement leak.
we have a lot of these cases.
GOOD LUCK
