With the liquidation of Saab ‘s North American assets and cars from the Heritage Collection put up for auction recently, many were no doubt curious to see where said vehicles ended up.
As it turns out, the cars have been acquired by two prominent collectors, Bill Jacobson who runs Sports Car Service in Wilmington, Delaware and Tom Donney of Donney Motors in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Bill bought the 1967 Sonnett III, the 1978 99 Turbo, 1986 900 convertible, 1990 Skip Barber Pro Series open wheel car and the 1997 900 SE Talladega record setter, while Tom acquired the 1952 92, 1956 Sonnett Super Sport (shown above), 1960 93F Gran Turismo 750, Eric Carlsson’s 1960 96 RAC rally winner and the 1987 9000 Talladega record setting machine.

Cars from the Camelot era – that of the Kennedy family’s tumultuous rise to power in United States politics – are no strangers to the auction scene. But most are centered around John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the U.S., which makes this 1994 Saab 900 owned by his son – JFK Jr. – no ordinary used car. Serving as JFK Jr.’s daily driver at the time of his 1999 death, the three-door 900 SE is, as the auction states, “as John F. Kennedy Jr. left it.”
Air cooled, 4-cylinders in line, 4-stroke, DOHC
Saab in 1978 launched its first Saab 900 went into production. A total of 908,810 Saab 900s were produced, of which 48,888 were Convertibles. Production of the two models overlapped for six years, until 1984, when the 99 was replaced by the 90. A development of the 99, it included a longer wheelbase, wider front and rear tracks and new frontal styling.OK, I can identify is like choosing between your children. ALL Saab 900s are great and revered - even more crazy with these wheels in size.
I concoct suspicion was raised in the comments last week, if it is unanswered so I have an idea to draw attention to the position was in order. This is considered the Saab Saabiest, after all, and there are probably some people out there to affect a Saab collectibles in their garages.
So who is the model from?
A whoop at 900 with a funky interior color? 8 valve or 16 valve? Whale Pope? Turbo or not (wheeze!)?? Openly nose or tip? 2 doors, 3 doors, 4 doors or even 5 doors? Formulate, or sedan? Hardtop or ragtop?
There are so many combinations and such an increase in technology between 1979 and 1993, the possibilities are almost constant.
Here are some pictures to get the blood flowing to the imagination. Once you without your fault that your child is selected, you can have your say in the comments. My thoughts return to the photos....
