Nelson's business is Mack tough

During World War II, Harry and Lawrence began using Mack trucks for their hauling enterprise and liked the quality. When a franchise came open to sell Mack trucks in southeast Iowa, the two Nelsons applied for it and started H&L Mack Truck Sales Corp., in 1956. The new enterprise was housed downtown with Nelson Trucking.

In the early days of the Mack business, the tractors and straight trucks were mostly gasoline-powered. The more popular Macks of the time were the 61 and 42 of the Model
