CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When Bill Cole began restoring his 1970 Ford Mustang about a year ago, the first thing he did was slap a Cleveland into it.

To muscle car fans like Cole , a Cleveland is Ford's 351-cubic inch V-8 engine built from late 1969 to 1972. It was the most iconic motor produced at the company's Cleveland Engine Plant No. 2 in Brook Park.

"If you want to customize your car, add a lot of horsepower, the Cleveland could handle that," said the Akron Army retiree.

The plant builds its last engine Friday, shutting down after 57 years of production . The 250 workers will transfer to the nearby Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1, which is adding a third production shift.
