I have a 95 Isuzu Rodeo that is overheating on trips under 10 miles.?
I have a 95 Isuzu Rodeo that is overheating on trips under 10 miles. I have had the radiator, hoses, Thermostat, First-grade Pump and Timing Belt replaced in the past six months. When I go to add fluid, it will only take a quart or so of antifreeze/irrigate. Last fix was 500.00. My wife loves this truck and I am at my wits end. My feeling is that the thermostat keeps failing (They don't push a failsafe one for this model). I am hoping somebody can tell me something else to try before I break the bad news to her.
take out the thermostate and go away it out while you drive for a while if it still over heats possible head gasket
1 is it tuned correctly
2 have cat converter checked
3 timing perimeter may have jumped or put on advanced
4 r u putting thernostate in upside down?/ [dont laugh]
5 clutch fan working? bot slipping
6 persuade test system...[pump/gauge goes on radiator to see if it holds pressure

i would be looking at the fans and making established they are operating properly...
on a trip that short, something isn't allowing the coolant to circulate, or you are not getting airflow across the radiator.
with the goods shut off and cold... pop the radiator cap and make sure the coolant level is up...
block the front of the radiator all the way across, with a membrane of cardboard big enough to cover the entire front of the radiator.
start the truck, and just let it idle.
and watch the coolant centre the radiator. when the thermostat opens, you should see it immediately, because the coolant will start to circulate actively... It will be patent...
If it doesn't start to flow within 5-10 minutes, then be watching your temp gauge... if it starts to overheat and the coolant still hasn't started flowing, then shut off the truck off and replace the thermostat...
also during this time check the fans... they should have started running as quickly as the engine came up to temp. If not, then check the fan thermostat... it may be faulty or you may have a wiring fault or blown coalesce in the fan circuit.

When you go to make restitution for a thermostat you can run into several that are faulty (personally experienced). To check if the thermostat will work right, put it into a pot of boiling soften before putting it into the vehicle. If it opens all the way it is good. Take it out of the boiling water it should close all the way when it cools down. This way you wont put a on the fritz thermostat in.
Also check your fans to see if they are turning on/off and if you did the work yourself then check to make sure the fan was hooked back up. No offense but it happens.
Worst the reality scenario, you have a crack/pinhole in the head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. Other then that I cant think of anything else. If it is a worst containerize scenerio, take the thermostat out and keep it out if you cannot afford to put more money into it, downside is you lose your heater. Hope this helps....
