YOU DONT HAVE TO READ ALL OF THIS, JUST GIVE YOUR ANSWER
Alright, I have decided that although NHL 09, and the demo for NHL 10 are really fun, it lacks a lot. So comment if you agree/disagree with this, but here is what I think would make this series so much better:
Improve hits: In an actual game of hockey, when you are frustrated, you can slam the crap outta people on the boards, or open ice, you should be able to do that on the games too. On the games, we cannot perfectly align hits, it takes the hands of surgeon, and way too much preciseness to land a hit well every time, or even most of the time. And, sometimes, you dont want a massive hit, you want just enough to get em off the puck. So here is what I propose: tap the analog forward, it will deliver a small hit or push, mostly used when stationary or moving slow. But, when you want to own someone on the boards to make a point, push and hold it forward, and it will auto-lock the person closest to you, that you are aimed at, or whoever closest to you has the puck.
Improve be a pro: 1. In the beginning, instead of playing a single prospect game, do like 5-10 games with a junior team, determine your place, and make the prospect game more of a finalizer of your spot. 2. Make a "popularity" level for the player. This goes up when your player has a great game, makes a cool goal, or something similar. This can also affect what line ur played, like if ur 82 overall, but ur competing with a 88 overall to play 1st line, you need to be more popular than him. 3. Make it less "sudden". On '09, if you have a single bad game, you get bumped a line, and after a couple games you get put back. Its really choppy. sometimes ur 1st line, sometimes 2nd, and in the nhl, players change lines a few times a season, not every week. Make it a big deal to change lines, get warnings and whatnot. 4. Have sponsorships. If your player is the best player in the league, hes gonna get tons of deals from sponsors, make this part of the game. 5. Make olympics/world championships. If ur player is good, hes gonna play for his country. pretty simple.
Improve goalies: Make them better, smarter, and more realistic. Make them have personalities, in the games, goalies arent even part of the game, they just stop the shots. Goalies get involved in scrums around the net, and fight on occasion. Some goalies are dynamic goalies, and dont stay in the crease, they make big slides to knock away the puck. And, when in goalie mode, make it a little better. for some reason, when doing goalie mode, ur team always dominates, and you end up with like 5 shots. Also, sudden movements are harder to do, so if someone makes a quick deke, the goalie should automatically follow, cuz humans just cant react on game like they can in real life. Make pads and gloves more customizable. Make more options, including for sizing. Some goalies like smaller, lighter pads cuz they can move better, and faster. But some goalies like bigger, more stuffed pads, cuz they cover more net, have better rebound control, and offer better protection. Make it all integrated with the pads. Same with player gear too, make different pads have different features.
Improve refs/penalties: The refs on the past games SUCK! If i bump/push someone, thats not interference. They need to call more logical penalties. Make things not get penalties sometimes. If one player gets tripped 10 times in a game, im thinkin that when he trips, a ref is not just gonna call a penalty, he'll be kinda smart about it. If its a game thats heated, and there are a lot of penalties, dont call every one. Also, i am sick of tripping, and interference. I get at least one a game because poke checks, and checks, often end up being penalties.
Finally, some small things: I want to see broken sticks, broken helmets, broken glass, nets knocked loose, net cams, improved player celebrations (if the player scores a goal when their team is up 7-0, there shouldnt be a celebration, whereas if they score the first goal of their career, at the end of game 7 in the finals, during the fourth overtime, i wanna see em party like theres no tomorrow), improved players on the bench (make em as (or more) interactive as the crowd is), and choose whether u want the game to feel like a broadcast on tv, or like ur there. On be a pro, the intro should be ur player in first person walking from the locker room to the ice, taking some shots on the goalie. cut scenes should be of ur player. However, during other modes, it should be like a broadcast, make a brief little pre-game show, have it feel like ur watchin it on tv.
