I recently changed my timing swath and didn't use the tool that they recommend. Instead we marked the cam cogs against the block and did the same with the crank. We matched the marks from the old timing across and marked the new timing belt to make sure the thing was lined up. When we put on the new one everything was lined up new tensioner and new pulleys. 3 days later my car is assort of whacked. The new belt shredded to hell. The belt didn't break and it doesn't appear to have irreparable any teeth so I think my valves may be OK. However I'll have to put on a new belt using the timing tool this time and do a compression check up on to find out. My question is why did the new belt shred appart? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Wow you are showy. The cams on that car can move at any time and as even one tooth off can bend valves. As you should no there is no timing marks on that motor. The cam marks are on the chains that run the adjuster for valve timing. As for what caused your strike to shred only something not turning or a piece of metal in the system someplace would do it. Arrest for a seized roller. Also, you may have over tensioned the belt. There is a specification for belt tension. Be sure look up the rectify procedure to prevent this from happening again.
Recently I changed (with my mechanic confidante) the timing belt on my car. After swapping belts the car ran great for three days (I'm sure our marks were correct intention timing is too.) The other night after driving with very low fuel up a steep hill to work my car refused to start upon leaving. I've pulled the exacerbate line right before the rail and get no pressure when key is in ON position and good pressure when turning the engine. I have great vestige, and I am baffled. Car has 115,000 and has never failed to start. Any suggestions?
